This started out as a passion project for me back in January 2022. At the time, there was not really an easy way to find up-to-date information on laws that were still in effect. There was the National Archives discord of course, but anyone who has ever tried to search it knows just how much of a pain it is to find anything with Discord’s search feature, and there was Chief Justice/National Archivist SpeedyJZoel’s Google drive (courtesy link) but, due to how busy he understandably was (and still is), it wasn’t a reliable source of up-to-date information. I remember being extremely excited and motivated to work on it — staying up quite late on more than one occasion to search through the main OSFUSA discord, the Congress discord, as well as the National Archives discord to find everything I could in regards to legislation as I wanted to include historical as well as current legislation as part of it. Upon release, it was met with enthusiastic support and became a staple that Congress would (and still does) utilize when working on new laws. After the suggestions of community members, I then started including Executive Orders, the Constitution and its Amendments, as well as a Living Constitution (one that I update when new Amendments are passed so that members can view the Constitution as it currently exists without the need to find what has changed through the many Amendments). I would like to thank the three community members (Blah_Mucho, ro_nxld, and seatb4lt) that have helped me with the Audit Log in the past as well as the community for still supporting the project so strongly after three years.
With the revamp of the Audit Log from a Google spreadsheet to Notion, my project has become an official extension of the National Archives and I couldn’t be more proud of this accomplishment. I would like to thank everyone for their interest in helping with the project since the announcement I made regarding the revamp and especially my team for working so diligently in helping get everything in order for the release of the new Government Auditing Service. I hope you find the revamped Service to be to your satisfaction!
